Popley Spotlight Centre Activities
Popley Spotlight Centre is run by Peace of Mind Care and was set up to help increase confidence, self esteem & social interaction by providing affordable activities for everyone in the Basingstoke & Deane Area. Peace of Mind Care currently fund 83 children throughout Basingstoke & Deane who are from low income families to be able to attend activities that help to increase confidence, self esteem and social interaction. Without this support they would be unable to attend activities.
Theatre School
These classes consist of workshops in both dance and drama (45mins of each) with our experienced staff. They are very popular and run both during the week and at weekends. Everyone who takes part has the opportunity to perform in our twice yearly shows – showing off everything they have learnt!
There will also be the chance to audition for and perform in The Spotlight Annual Musical and we have the honour of working with Mr. Joe Scott Parkinson – an ex-West End producer.
Performance Choir
We run both adult and children’s Performance Choirs – working with our talented singing teachers. The aim is to make these choirs more than just ‘singing’ and we work at putting movement and actions to the songs.
All the performance choirs will get the opportunity to perform regularly at fetes, fayres and also our Spotlight shows.
Street Dance Troupes
We are putting together Spotlight street dance troupes. Within these classes each troupe will learn the street dancing basics and lots of brand new routines with our brilliant street dance teaching team.
All the troupes will have the opportunity to perform at fetes, fayres and at our Spotlight shows.
Funky Feet
This class is perfect for getting pre-schoolers moving. Run by our experienced dance teachers this class, with funky music and simple moves, will get mums and toddlers dancing!
Friends Club
The perfect opportunity to catch up with old and new friends over a cup of tea, coffee and a biscuit! This is a relaxed environment with games and good conversation. Bingo and Chat
Spend time with friends and play a little prize bingo, enjoy a variety of prizes each week, tea, coffee and biscuits.
LAMDA
London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) acting classes provide an excellent qualification in drama. This class leads to an exam (graded by a qualified LAMDA examiner) for which students will work on two scripted pieces (one from the LAMDA approved syllabus, and one of their own choice).
This LAMDA class will help with practical skills of script work as well as with confidence and self-esteem, but above all it is based on having fun!
Family Fun/Drop In and Play Sessions
This is our open session for families to enjoy. Children and adults are able to make use of all our equipment and toys, as well as our cafe and charity shop.
We have table tennis, table football, pool, various arts & crafts, musical instruments, piano, indoor tennis equipment, footballs, baby and toddler toys, dolls houses, board games, Lego, Duplo, Xbox, Playstation3 and Nintendo Wii (with LOTS of games) – and much more...
These sessions are designed for families and therefore children must be accompanied by an adult.
Parent and Toddler Groups
Our experienced staff run these Parent and Toddler groups – which include a variety of activities each week.
Each week we have arts & crafts, books, car games, books, pretend shop, push-a-longs, colouring/painting, dolls houses and many more toys.
We have lots of soft play mats and toys for babies and toddlers.
Pop along and enjoy a cup of tea and some good company!
Contemporary Dance
Taught by our experienced and creative dance teacher, this is a modern based dance session which includes lyrical style dance and up to date music. These classes teach dance technique as well as routines.
The idea of this class is FUN, but those who take part will also have the opportunity to perform at fetes, fayres and at Spotlight shows. There will also be the opportunity to audition and perform in our Spotlight musicals.
